Future OFWs

"Need (hired) help? Try the Philippines, the forerunner of tomorrow's distributed economy, supplying nurses, teachers, techies, and sailors to the global village."

- an excerpt from One Nation, Overseas... by David Diamond, The OFW Online

While having dinner with some friends a while ago at Bacolod Inasal, where we usually eat dinner every Sunday, I was hit with a tinge of a depressing thought: all of us are doing our own thing just so we could get out of this country. DO who’s been working for almost ten years in a prominent bank and is now one of the officers in a branch in Manila is going to quit her job and train as a nurse. Nurses have bigger chances of landing a job in America. Another friend GL studied a 6-month care-giving course in the hope of finding a job in the United Kingdom. EKS has been waiting for a few years for the approval of her application for an immigrant visa in Canada is working and studying hard. Another close friend MT has been taking all sorts of courses that will increase her points in her application for an Australian visa. I, on the one hand, am just finishing up my web course and English teaching certification. After which I will fly off to Dubai to work there and be with my Dad. But of course, that's just MY plan.

After a year or so, we would have gone off to different countries and become OFWs ourselves. By then Bacolod Inasal would be a little quieter than the usual. :-(

Kalungkot isipin, pero one cannot really blame Pinoys why they itch to go abroad....

I wish you all the best in your plans. Ok yan at matatapos ka na sa web design course mo. How's your TESOL course coming along?

Have a blessed week!

If in case you decide to become an OFW and your destination is in Middle East, just let me know.

I will find time to see and welcome you. And perhaps, you can bring me that famous Inasal as pasalubong.

By then you will be called "Kabayan".

It is a sad fact but something inevitable. Me, I blame it on the government. They are not there so serve our countrymen but only themselves. I have a doctor friend who is thinking of moving to NZ.
Only you will know if relocating would be good. It is after all not a "want" but should be on a "need" basis.
Good luck! Will be reading on it...

myepinoy, thanks for the kind offer. wala pa man din e natutuwa na ako. sige, we'll see about the inasal chicken :-)

patrice, tama ka diyan, about who's fault it is. but as of now wala tayong magawa, it is a need talaga. haaay...

nikki, bakit nawala na naman ung blog mo? nag-aral din ako ng german a year ago, pero i forgot about it, wala na kasi akong kausap na germans. japanese is easier! as for the koreans, they come here because education is cheaper here. plus they get to learn and practice english which is really expensive in their country. basta, ituloy mo lang yang mga plans mo. offer them to God and He will guide you.
